The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 is Volkswagen’s first all-electric SUV. The ID.4 has a starting price of $37,495. The all-electric SUV is available in four trims consisting of the ID.4 Standard, Pro, Pro S, and Pro S Plus. The ID.4 falls into the compact SUV segment and is similar in size to the Volkswagen Tiguan. The saying goes “What’s on the outside isn’t as important as what is on the inside” but that just doesn’t always ring true when buying a new car.

The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 makes a lasting impression with its sleek and aerodynamic profile. The all-electric SUV has a handsome and streamlined exterior design. To reduce weight without compromising strength the chassis and body are both made from steel. Other areas like the side sills are made from aluminum and ultra-high-strength steel. The ID.4 has a near 50:50 weight distribution thanks to its low center of gravity and battery housed between axles. With Rear wheel drive the ID.4 has a 31.5 ft turn radius and ID.4 models with All-wheel drive have a turn radius of 36.4 ft.
The face of the 2023 ID.4 boasts a modern slim grille with black gloss accents, full LED headlights, and an illuminated VW emblem. The ID.4 has an air of focus and precision. The front grille also features an illuminated light line that stretches and connects headlights to the illuminated VW emblem. The headlights of the 2023 ID.4 are full LEDs and adapt their positioning to match the direction of travel. New C-shaped LED taillights and a red-illuminated VW emblem are connected by a second red light line at the back of the EV. Rear and All-wheel Pro S Plus models have black roofs, C-pillars, Roof rails, rear spoilers, and bumper accents as well as power folding mirrors.
The 2023 model year has eight exterior paint colors and three new wheel designs. The Standard, Pro, and all-wheel drive Pro models have all-season tires mounted to 19-inch machined aluminum alloy wheels. The S Plus model has 20-inch machined aluminum alloy wheels. The S, Pro, and all-wheel drive Pro S models have 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels with a 5-spoke design. Rain-sensing wipers, KESSY® keyless access with proximity unlocking, and auto-dimming review mirrors are standard features.
2023 VW ID.4 | Interior Cabin Overview
The interior of the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 is focused on ultimate comfort and efficiency. The 5.3-inch ID.Cockpit display is ideally positioned above the steering wheel so it is always in view of the driver. The ID.Cockpit shows the speed, mileage, battery percentage, estimated range to empty, and state of charge. The ID.Cockpit display also works with the ID.4’s safety features to provide alerts. ID.4 S trims receive a heated steering wheel with hands-on detection.
Centered on the dashboard for everyone to enjoy is the 12-inch Discover Pro Max touch infotainment display. The control panel has a minimalist layout thanks to the gesture control of the Discover Pro Max display. Say “Hello ID” to activate the natural voice control personal assistant. 6-way manually adjustable seats are standard in the ID.4 Standard, Pro, and AWD Pro models. The ID.4 S, Pro S, and AWD Pro S models feature 12-way power adjustable memory seats with lumbar massage. Inside the center console is a storage compartment, two USB-C charging ports, and an illuminated wireless charging pad. Wirelessly connect to Volkwagen Car-Net, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Rear passengers also have access to two USB-C ports behind the center console. Car-Net is offered at no charge for five years after purchase. Car-Net enables the Wi-Fi hotspot, Safe & Secure security system, and Remote Access EV through the myVW app.
The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 interior cabin is available in Stone or Nutmeg leatherette with Galaxy or Cosmic finishes. The Galaxy finish features platinum gray door inserts, a dashboard, and bolsters with black leatherette seats and a black steering wheel. The Cosmic finish features Gray leatherette seat inserts,a white steering wheel and blue bolsters, door inserts, and a dashboard. Above the ID.4’s panoramic fixed-glass roof adds to the spaciousness of the cabin. Activate the electric sunshade with the tap of a finger on the infotainment display.
The cabin is not only comfortable but interactive with standard 10-color ambient lighting in the ID.4 Standard, Pro, and AWD Pro. For more color options choose the ID.4 Pro S or AWD Pro S for the 30-color ambient lighting system with several pre-programmed moods. At the base of the windshield is a lightstrip with several different strobes and pulse to signal navigation instructions, immediate hazzard brake prompts, incoming phone calls, and more.
